Reflex Security® Shatters Gigabit IPS Price/Performance Barrier:
Shipping Interceptor 1000™ with $28,000 Street Price
Industry’s First Gigabit IPS Appliance to Take Full Advantage of Quad-Core Intel® Xeon®
Processor 5300 Series Performance
ATLANTA & LAS VEGAS (INTEROP 2007) May 22, 2007 Reflex Security, Inc. (www.reflexsecurity.com) pioneer and innovator in intrusion prevention systems (IPS), today shipped the Reflex Security Interceptor 1000™—a full-featured high-performance appliance for enterprise-class intrusion prevention and policy enforcement that sets new technology and market expectations for network security. Leveraging the company’s new Reflex Security Parallel Processing Architecture™, the Interceptor 1000 is the industry’s first gigabit IPS solution to fully take advantage of the ever-increasing power of Intel’s Multi-Core processors, and simultaneously redefine the market’s benchmark for IPS price/performance.
In its Magic Quadrant for Network Intrusion Prevention System Appliances 2H06, report (December 2006), Gartner, Inc. noted that "On average, (IPS appliance)“solutions remain priced at approximately $50,000 per Gbps of deep inspection.”1 At a list price of $35,000 USD/MSRP and an average street price of $28,000, the Reflex Security Interceptor 1000 is significantly more affordable and price/performance competitive than offerings from other vendors of 1-Gbps IPS appliances.
New Software Architecture Brings Unprecedented Performance and Scalability
The Reflex Security Parallel Processing Architecture™ (RSPPA), is a new scalable software platform which enables all Reflex Security solutions to leverage Multi-Core (not just Dual-Core or Quad-Core) processing technology. Reflex’s RRSA uniquely auto-detects the presence of CPU cores and takes advantage of them. Thus a Reflex Security system running a single CPU will have single CPU performance 4 CPU performance is achieved when the software runs on a Dual CPU / Dual Core device, and a Dual CPU / Quad-Core system yields 8 CPU's worth of performance.
“In the past, security systems have found it difficult to leverage multiple CPU’s within a single system. Our new architecture not only leverages multiple CPU’s but is designed to scale into
the future. When Dual-CPU 8-Core technology becomes available from Intel, Reflex Security’s software will not have to change, and the RSSA will automatically detect and take advantage of the 16 CPU's available,” said John Peterson, VP of Product Management of Reflex Security. “The integration of the Reflex Security software product with Intel® multi-core processors sets a new bar for security functionality and price/performance,” said Hezi Moore, CTO of Reflex Security. “This new solution continues our tradition of building IPS systems that are faster, cheaper and more full-featured than anything else available on the market.”
Reflex Security’s Interceptor 1000 system outperforms IPS systems built on static, proprietary ASIC-based hardware. ASIC-based architectures are costlier, don’t scale and are difficult to upgrade. Designed with standards in mind, Reflex Security leverages processor power, keeps up with line speeds, and meets scalability and performance requirements of enterprise customers. The Reflex Security Interceptor 1000 is classified as an enterprise-class, true Gigabit IPS appliance: delivering fast deep-packet content inspection with 100% intrusion attack prevention, as well as featuring added protection against application access threats and flexible network policy controls. The Interceptor 1000 is designed to meet the high performance needs of large enterprises running bandwidth-intensive applications for Voice-over-IP, streaming media, imaging and collaboration. At its affordable price, it will also appeal to mid-sized enterprises, educational and institutional facilities that previously desired high-performance IPS, but could not afford it.
Powering the high performance of the Interceptor 1000 are two Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® E5335 processors. The E5335 processor offers 8M bytes of L2 cache and a 1,333MHz front side bus for high performance security applications.
"The Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® E5335 processor doubles the compute density over previous dual-core Intel® processors to meet the needs of intensive workloads in network, security and storage appliance applications," said Rose Schooler, Marketing Director of the Intel Embedded and Communications Processor Division. “The availability of innovative systems with the latest Intel technologies, such as the Reflex Security’s Interceptor 1000, takes full advantage of Intel’s multi-core technology for better power management, reliability and speed,” said Schooler.
Interceptor 1000—Expanding the Definition of “IPS Systems”
The Reflex Security Interceptor 1000 goes beyond legacy capabilities of “IPS systems” by
integrating advanced protection and prevention with new network policy enforcement capabilities. Beyond IPS controls (including anti-virus, anti-spyware and other intrusion prevention), enhanced security management features of the Interceptor 1000 include:
- Identity-based Network Access Control
- IP to ID Identity Management
- Firewall (to prevent network access threats)
The implementation of Reflex’s “Integrated Security” approach built into the Interceptor 1000 reduces the cost to purchase, deploy, operate, manage and scale enterprise-wide security.
